Book Description
Thoroughly updated to reflect the latest refinements in operative technique, this full-color atlas provides a surgeon’s-eye view of the anatomic structures and relationships encountered during all facial surgical procedures. It features more than 100 drawings by Dr. Makielski, a head and neck surgeon, and more than 100 photographs.
This Second Edition’s brand-new chapter on embryology emphasizes congenital anomalies such as clefts and dermoid cysts. New illustrations show the surgical anatomy of endoscopic approaches and recently developed procedures, including the SOOF lift. This edition also includes more detail on the osteocutaneous and retaining ligaments and the supporting ligaments and tendons of the orbit.

Not worth the prize, May 28, 2005
I ordered this book based on the publishers review and have to say that I was disappointed to the degree that I returned it. The illustrations are poor in detail and quality, especially for a book supposedly centered on anatomy. There are a lot of other books that describe the anatomy of this region in greater detail, without being anatomic atlases. Sorry, but this book isn’t worth the money!
A Book for school Children, not surgeons, April 9, 2011
I have an extensive library of anatomical and surgical texts of the head and neck and this book is simplistic and poorly done. The illustrations are not helpful unless you are a novice in medicine… I bought it and returned it the same week… i was deeply disappointed in otherwise well respected authors… sometimes people assume a name will sell… thank god for return policies!
Great book for surgeons who operate on the face, September 24, 2005
This book is not intended to be a detailed review of facial anatomy. Instead it is designed to give a “a realistic surgeon’s-eye view”, and that is exactly what it does. Surgeons who operate on the face will enjoy the clear illustrations and gain a better understanding of the dissection planes that are critical for a successful outcome. Important surgical landmarks, such as the facial nerve, are well-outlined. Photos of cadaveric tissue dissections, which are also included in the book, greatly enhance the understanding of anatomy as encountered during surgery. A key book to have for head and neck surgeons.
