Book Description
Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies: Effects on Speech and Resonance is the only book of its kind that covers both oral and facial anomalies and cleft palate. Designed as a how-to guide for the practicing clinician, this book emphasizes what students, clinicians new to this population, and any member of a cleft palate team need to know in the workplace. It includes information on common craniofacial anomalies, associated anomalies, and genetic syndromes. Everything from basic information on anatomy, physiology, and embryology of the face and oral cavity to oral, dental, and ENT anomalies and their effects on speech, resonance, and feeding are covered. The evaluation section includes the perceptual evaluation of speech and resonance, the intraoral examination, and instrumental assessment procedures. The treatment section includes surgical procedures, prosthetic devices, and therapies designed to address speech, resonance, and velopharyngeal dysfunction. The need for multidisciplinary team assessment and treatment is also emphasized throughout.
Editorial Reviews
Review
“This book will be an excellent textbook for a class in cleft palate/craniofacial disorders, especially a beginning class, like first-year graduate students. It is also a good resource for practicing clinicians. The text is well written, logically organized, and complete. This book should be on the shelf of every clinician interested in cleft palate and craniofacial disorders.”

Wonderful textbook and professor!, January 18, 2011
This textbook was written very well. The author does a great job explaining different concepts in language that is easy to read and understand. Alongside the textbook, the author was my professor. She lectured directly in-sync with the book and provided wonderful visual and auditory examples that facilitated the learning process. Most textbooks are expensive but this one is worth the price.

Best money ever spent!, April 15, 2010
This text is exceptional! I would highly recommend this textbook to any clinician working with children who have hypernasal speech/ VPI. It has proven to be the most USEFUL textbook I’ve ever had…let’s just say this one is NOT sitting on my shelf collecting dust! It was so thoughtful of Dr. Kummer to include video examples of key issues related to VPI. I am so happy I purchased this text and found the price to be very reasonable considering everything it has to offer. Buy it, you’ll be glad you did!
