The Best Atlas EVER!!!!!!October 21, 2010
Anatomy is not simple. One has to “imagine” every anatomical detail in one’s brain without actually seeing things in 3-D.
There are a lot of Netter’s enthusiasts, but let me assure you that you have to see the art-work and beauty of this atlas. The drawings are PHENOMENAL and you dont get even 20 % quality of pics in those “Look inside this book” options on Thieme website or on Google book reviews and other sites.
The other good thing about this atlas is that gives an “overall” views for various systems eg arterial, venous systems for various systems. This atlas “gets close to the tree, but never loses the sight of the forest”. And thats what you need when you are studying anatomy to be a good doctor-Never lose the perspective; Never forget the BIGGER picture.
I already have a Sobotta and I am going to buy the other two in the series (Neck and Internal Organs and General Anatomy and Musculoskeletal System). If I knew about this atlas I probably would have gone for it earlier (I still would have gone for Sobotta since that is a great one too). I have always seen Netter’s around and I have never liked it. I think it is overrated and people cant spend on THREE atlas series but guys let me assure you—> this atlas is the REAL deal.
There are some descriptions as well as but that is superficial and still you have to read proper text book (eg Keith L Moore etc).
Another strength is the clinical correlates with regional anatomy which is really helpful for students .
I am planing to do a video review of this atlas comparing it will Sobotta since many people are not aware of these gems but till then!!!!
Best of Luck.
The best neuranatomy book for medical school March 20, 2012
This book is a must-have for M1/M2 medical students… the earlier you can get this atlas, the better! Clinical correlations are *excellent*, and they almost justify the purchase of this book by themselves. Once the structure of the book is learned, it’s pretty easy to flip to relevant diagrams in class during lectures to clarify things, as long as one isn’t afraid of digging through the index a bit. Also, there is usually a two-four page layout that summarized the majority of a two hour lecture, which is a beautiful thing considering that not-enough-hours-in-the-day thing us medical students all seem to suffer from (read: Thieme = maximizes efficiency over time spent).
Long term retention comes from clear presentation of concepts, and this is exactly where Thieme excels. Beautiful illustrations break down what seem like the most complex topics on lecture day, and there have been many illustrations that have led to that ‘A-Ha!’ moment where I suddenly understand what the guest lecturer was trying to confuse us.. erm, overcomplicate us… erm…. I mean teach us about, haha.No matter what your confidence levels or grades are concerning medical school, this book will definitely help you out and save you time in the long run, when used correctly of course. Best game plan – read the page or two that corresponds to lecture the day before it is given. Although this does not happen as much as I’d like for it to, there is a big difference in what I get out of lecture by having a clear presentation of concepts in my mind before walking into class.
Hands down, this is best $60 I’ve ever spent. Sure, Thieme’s regular Atlas of Anatomy is solid, but IMO, Head and Neuroanatomy is the must-own of the two. Move over Netters… it’s time for Thieme to shine!
